Facing MSAC foe Huntington on Jan. 10, the Riverside girls enjoyed a brief third-period flurry that cut the deficit to single digits, but they eventually fell, 71-48.

With the Warriors exerting a pressure defense, senior Jasmine Symns picked the ball from a Huntington player at midcourt and proceeded to convert a three-point play that pulled the hosts to within eight points, 41-33, with 3:51 left in the third quarter.

About as quickly as the Warriors got back into contention, however, the Highlanders put the hammer back down. A 9-0 spurt pushed the Huntington lead back out to 15, 50-35, with 2:15 to go in the third.

Early in the final stanza, the score stood at 54-36, and the Highlanders eventually captured a 71-48 verdict.

In the junior varsity game, Huntington claimed a 49-21 victory.

Scorers for Riverside were: Charley Kauff, 10; Sydaysa Williams, 5; Mallory Crowder, 4; Valerie Massey, 2; and Kenzie Irvin, 1.

Myracle Harper and Markayla Moore scored eight each for Huntington.

The Warrior varsity fell, 63-34, to Woodrow Wilson on Jan. 14 to dip to 3-6.

Riverside will visit Spring Valley on Thursday, Jan. 16.
