The WVU Tech Athletics Department has announced the student-athletes of the week for Oct. 17-23.

Junior Frankie Hilbert (women’s swimming) and sophomore Craig Mitchell (men’s soccer) were chosen for the award.

Hilbert single-handedly scored all 44 of WVU Tech’s points at this past weekend’s West Virginia State Games. In the 50-yard freestyle, Hilbert finished in 36th in 27.76 seconds. During the 200 freestyle, she swam a finishing time of 2:13.41 for a 32nd place finish.

On the second day of competition, Hilbert finished 16th in the 100 breaststroke and 14th in the 200 breaststroke (1:20.25 and 2:53.49, respectively).

She is a general education major from Winfield.

Mitchell has been the backbone of the men’s soccer team and its defensive play. So far this season, the sophomore centerback has netted four goals (of a total of 55 for the team) on 15 shots while anchoring a defensive side of the ball that has allowed just 14 goals this season.

Mitchell is a biology major from Prestwick, Scotland.
