Midland Trail Middle doubled up visiting Valley on Tuesday to keep a strong softball season going.

The Patriots pushed across six runs in the second inning and five more in the fourth to get enough cushion for a 16-8 victory over the Greyhounds.

At the plate against Valley, Mia Nuckols was 3-for-4 with three RBIs to lead the way for the winners. Sydney Sheets and Layla Tompkins were both 2-for-4 with three RBIs.

Pitcher Katie Hawkins logged a five-inning complete game, striking out eight and surrendering six hits.

For Valley on Tuesday, Rayne Hannigan was 2-for-3 with a triple and two RBIs, and Alanna McKenzie was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Also, Emily Myers (1-for-4), Madison Young and Ryley Chapman drove in a run apiece, and Addyson Arthur was 1-for-3.

Also this week, the Collins Middle baseball team won a pair of games to remain unbeaten in its inaugural season.

On Tuesday, the Red Devils toppled Princeton 15-1. They followed that with a 22-2 thumping of Braxton County on Thursday. The verdicts boosted the Collins record to 12-0.
